Bench
Description
Thomas Staub
In the north-east corner, a quarter-circular structure, probably a working bench is built against the two adjacent walls, 0.88 m wide, 0.78 m deep and 0.72 m high. It is made of a mix of lava, Sarno stone, pieces of bricks, and shows a few remains of plaster on its sides. The upper side had two layers of plaster, the uppermost, a hydraulic plaster containing ceramic and brick split.
The level on which the bench is placed has a cocciopesto floor, partly broken, which goes under the small remains of plaster at the east wall. In the middle of that floor (0.31 m from north wall, 0.60 m from western step), a round deepening is cut into the floor with a diam. of ca. 0.55 m and a depth of 0.02 m.
