Room e (ala)

Description

A. Karivieri & R. Forsell

The alae is a rectangular space, which opens to the atrium in the south. The southwest corner is made of large Sarno limestone blocks, while the walls are made in opus incertum.

The room has doors into room d in the west and into the North House through the north wall. In the east there is a large window towards room m.

The ala had wall paintings in the Third style. The paintings, partly preserved on the north and west walls, are now in bad shape and no decorative motive can be seen.

There is a white mosaic floor which has a black and white border with pelta motif defining the limits of the ala and the atrium.
