Wall decoration (extant)
Description
Thomas Staub
Large parts of the west, north and east walls, and the vaulted ceiling, are covered by fine plaster. The walls were probably decorated up until 1.56 - 1.61 m height (depending on the rising floor level); over that line, they might have had the light surface of the fine plaster. Between 0.55 - 1.48 m height, the wall is grey-grounded (probably a faded black paint) with diagonal stripes, in a light colour. These stripes are app. 0.05 m wide and are partly slightly rounded, with a distance of 0.07 - 0.10 m between each other. Above this zone, a 0.08 m high horizontal stripe, framed by 0.005 m high black lines under and above, concludes the decorated section of the walls. This stripe follows the rising of the floor level towards the north, which means that it is not strictly horizontal.
