East Wall

Description

Thomas Staub

E wall: width 7.15 m, height 2.20 (northern end) - 2.65 m (southern end). At the northernmost part of the wall, a modern repair is visible. In the following part, a 0.60 x 0.80 m large area of the masonry is visible. Here it consists of opus incertum of Sarno stone and lava, set into a yellowish mortar. The next part of the wall is completely covered by plaster until 3.65 m from north-east corner. Here, a 0.55 m wide and 1.60 m high oval modern repair is visible, corresponding in its position with the one in the west wall. The remaining part of the wall is covered by modern concrete and dirt, but it seems to correspond with the material used in the west wall. For the eastern doorframe towards room h, see description room h, north wall.
