Threshold
Description
Thomas Staub
Threshold between room h and room i
The threshold is made one lava block, nearly rectangular in form but the east side is wider than the west side (1.16 x 0.21 (w) - 0.3 (e) m). The north east corner is slightly damaged, but it seems that an indentation was situated here (at the east frame, 0.04 m from the north edge, 0.03 x 0.08 x 0.015 m). Another indentation is situated at the west frame, 0.03 from the north edge, 0.04 x 0.08 x 0.02 m. Also round indentations can be observed on both sides: at the east side diam. 0.06 m, depth 0.01 m, situated 0.06 m from the north edge and 0.01 m from the east edge, at the west side: diam. 0.06 m, depth 0.01 m with faint remains of iron, situated 0.07 m from the north edge and 0.09 m from the west edge. This threshold is at also forming the uppermost step down to the floor level of room i.
Threshold between room h and kitchen l
The threshold is made of one block of lava (1.1 x 0.33 m), which at the southern side partly is covered by the doorframe. The doorstop is situated on the west side, the kitchen side, 0.11 m from the west edge, 0.025 m high. Two bolt holes are situated in this lower part: 1: 0.45 m from the north edge, 0.015 m from the rim, 0.045 x 0.045 x 0.03 m, 2: 0.67 m from the north edge, 0.01 m from the rim, 0.045 x 0.04 m, partly filled in. On the east side of threshold a slightly trapezoid indentation can be observed at the north edge, 0.07 m from the east edge, 0.065 x 0.075 â€" 0.1 x 0.02 m. At the southern side a similar indentation seems to be covered by the door frame.
