West Wall
Description
Thomas Staub
W wall: width 1.75 m, max. preserved height 3.50 m, door opening towards peristyle b (set against the north wall of room d and peristyle b): width 1.30 m, height 2.05 m. The area above this door is reconstructed in modern times and thereby placed too far to the west, as is visible at the rims of the plaster in room d and peristyle b. The southern doorframe consists of Sarno stone blocks, the lower corner broken off, then one block 0.40 x 0.20 m, the next 0.25 x 0.80 m and then, partly repaired, 0.40 x 0.60 m. The following part of the wall southwards consists of mainly Sarno stone and lesser lava pieces (max. 0.20 x 0.15 m), partly covered by modern concrete, else the mortar is washed away. Probably the west wall abutted against the north wall.
