Wall decoration (extant)
Description
Thomas Staub
Only on the east wall, some remains of plaster are preserved; both in a small area at its northern part, and near the south east corner. The only traces of colour in this room, which do not belong to an earlier, later abolished decoration, are found at this corner. Some remains of red cover a max. 0.05 m wide vertical stripe at the corner, between 0.70 and 1.00 m height, maybe remains of a corner lesene. At the same corner, also some remains of an older decoration, probably belonging to the first style, are preserved and are continuing behind the dividing wall between this room and room 11. This indicates that one originally larger room later was divided into two. This older decoration is, in its lower part, up to 1.05 m height, yellow with a narrow horizontal line drawn into the plaster at 0.15 m height. Above the yellow coloured area, a vertical red line (0.17 m high) protrudes for about 0.005 m. Above this, no remains of colour are visible, but further relieved structures are preserved. First there is again a recessed 0.06 m high stripe, followed by a 0.75 m high, once again protruding area, there above a 0.07 m high recess, topped by a 0.035 m high protruding stripe.
At the south west corner, an older layer of plaster is disappearing behind the south wall as well, but no decorations can be recognized.
