Description
Thomas Staub
N wall: width 5.25 m, max. preserved height 2.80 m (western part) - 3.20 m (eastern part). Nearly the entire wall is taken up by the opening towards peristyle b, width of the opening: 4.35 m. The western part of the wall preserves, in its northernmost part (max. width 0.30 m, height 1.20 m), a small stripe of lava-incertum with some traces of plaster. The remaining part is constructed of Sarno stone blocks (0.10 x 0.15 - 0.35 x 0.40 m), covered with modern concrete and without any traces of plaster. Also the eastern part, width 0.45 m, preserves some remains of the lava-incertum in the reddish mortar (at bottom in entire width, over 1.00 m height, a stripe of 0.30 m). It is else constructed of mainly blocks of Sarno stone like in the western part, but also some pieces of cruma and lava. Modern concrete covers even this part of the wall.
