West Wall
Description
Thomas Staub
W wall: width: 3.68 m, max. preserved height: 4.40 m. The lower part was originally covered with tiles up to ca. 1.00 m height. The lower row is 0.44 m high, with the 0.58 - 0.60 m wide bipedales continuing under floor level, the upper one consisted of 6.5 plates (the three central ones are missing) with the format of 0.57 - 0.59 x 0.57 - 0.59 m, again showing the irregularly set of small holes. The south-west corner and the northern part of the wall (max. width: 1.00 m) are still covered with plaster. The wall consists, up to the height of 2.70 m, of lava-incertum, there above of cruma-incertum, all set into the usual reddish mortar. Above 4.20 m height, the wall is reconstructed. In app. 0.30 m height, the three holes (0.20 - 0.25 x 0.20 - 0.25 m) for the beams supporting the cupboard are placed. In 3.35 m height, a horizontal carving along the complete wall has been filled up with small pieces of Sarno stone and cruma in concrete, probably in modern times. Both the south and north walls abut against the west wall.
