Room 10
Description
Thomas Staub
This corridor, situated to the west of the tablinum13 connects the front part of the house around the atrium with the rear part around the peristyle. It thus ensures, that the more representative character of the tablinum is not affected by passers through. Judging by some of the building material, mainly at the bottom of the west and east wall, the corridor belongs to the original building phase of the house and was not added later. To the east the two doorways towards rooms 11 and a opens up, whereas the west wall is completely closed. Both the north and south wall are taken up in nearly their total width by the two doorways, with only thin doorposts on both sides, the western ones slightly broader. Due to the difference in the floor level between the front and the rear part of the house, the pavement is rising towards the north.
This part of the hopuse excavated between 1836-1838.
Dimensions: 1.65 m (S wall) x 5.10 m (W wall) = 8.43 m2
