East Wall
Description
Thomas Staub
Width 2.8 m, max preserved height: 1.85 m. The wall is made off a mixed opus incertum of lava, sarno stone and cruma. It is thickly covered by modern concrete. The uppermost part shows larger stone blocks, which could be an indication for a modern repair/reconstruction. Remains of what could have been a relieving arch can be seen in the northern part of the wall. The crown of the arch, 0.7 m from the n-e corner is 0.8 m above ground. The stone blocks (mainly sarno stone and cruma) forming the arch are approx. 0.1 x 0.2 -0.3 m large. In the southernmost part, the opus vittatum of the doorframe (and n wall of room 1) reaches into the e wall of room 3 for max 0.1 m.
