Description
Thomas Staub
Width 4.4 m, max preserved height: 3.3 m. The lower, northern part of the wall is hidden behind a basin and a masoned cauldron (2.45 x 0.8 – 1.25 m, 0.75 m high). A second, round cauldron (diam. 1.45 m) is placed diagonally in front of the first one. The southernmost part is, up to a height of 2.75 m, made of 4 large tufa stone blocks: 1 x 0.55 m, 0.85 x 0.8, 1.2 x 0.7 m, 0.7 x 0.7 m, the area above of much smaller blocks of mixed materials. The northernmost part consists up to the height of 2.65 m of a 0.55 m wide stripe constructed of bricks, thicker than the remaining wall by 0.15 m. The area in between these two “corner constructions” consists of a mixed opus incertum with mainly sarno stone, but also lava, cruma, pieces of bricks and of travertine. Two round holes can be observed in 0.35 and 1.45 m height in 0.95 and 0.85 m from the s-w corner. The opening of a cistern can be seen in the s-w corner of the room, frame: 0.9 x 0.8 m, diam. of opening: 0.55 m.
