Room 3
Description
Mats Holmlund
Room 3 is an approximately 4 square meters large corridor and latrine that occupies the northeast corner of the taberna. The room is oblong and can either be entered from room 1, through an approximately 1.00 m wide door in the west wall, or from room 2, through a circa 0.60 m wide door in the south wall.
The walls are mostly intact, but there is only a small part of the floor remaining by the east wall.
The main feature of the room is the latrine in the northeast corner. It consists of an approximately 0.55 m wide, 1.75 m high and 0.35 m deep niche. - The latrine in room 3 is linked to a similar latrine on the upper floor of the south wall of room 2 of taberna V 1,30. The outlet of both latrines is a cess pit located under the floor of room 2 in taberna V 1,30.
There is an upper floor of room 3, but as is the case in rooms 1 and 2, there are no remnants or signs of a staircase. The upper floor of room 3 spanned both room 2 and 3, as indicated by the fact that the entrance to/from room 6 in V.1,3 is located exactly above the partition wall between room 3 and 2.
Room 3 was examined in September 2010.
