Threshold

Description

Renée Forsell

There is a threshold in the door opening towards the atrium 2. It is made out of one single piece of lava stone. The threshold is badly worn and there are many grooves and a shallow crack in the surface. The west side is slightly higher on the west side showing that the doors opened inwards. Three circular holes are found in the eastern lower side. Two were pivot holes for the door sockets and placed near each doorjamb. The hole by the N wall contained remains of iron. A third hole, a bolthole, was located between them. A fourth hole is located in the N end of the upper W part.
