East Wall
Description
Renée Forsell
The wall by the entrance in the S is built in op. quadratum with large tuff blocks, the same as in the façade and all entrances of the insula eastwards on Via di Nola. Towards the atrium in the N the wall is built of limestone blocks. In between there are two sections of op. incertum and in the middle a section built in op testacium. The op. testacium section is built to enforce the op. mixtum wall of taberna 4. This tells us that this brickwork section is a rather late rebuilding in the earlier incertum wall. In the S part of the wall there is a modern restoration containing limestone that are larger and even in shape and size.
There are some remains of wall plaster in the N half of the wall along the floor.
