West Wall
Description
A. Karivieri & R. Forsell
The northern corner of the west wall is built of large Sarno limestone blocks, alternating horizontal and vertical blocks, filling consists mostly rounded of limestone, and possibly some cruma.
Several layers of supporting plaster are preserved, but wall paintings are missing.
There are remains of modern supporting mortar at the height of 0.70-1.20 m. The wall above this level has been reconstructed with limestone, cruma, lava, yellow tufa, and some grey tufa bricks. The north corner is reconstructed with large Sarno limestone blocks; one of them has plaster left on the lower face.
The wall is mostly destroyed. Heavily reconstructed, from 1.46 m upwards in the N corner.
The central reconstruction of a larger hole may possibly be connected with holes made by treasure hunters some time before 1875.
One iron clamp at the height of 43 cm, at the distance of 44.5 cm from the N edge. The iron clamp in the N corner can possibly be connected with a panel of wood or marble.
Width 2.36 m. Height 4.35 m.
