Room a has a shopfront doorway towards Via del Vesuvio. The threshold shows that it was closed with shutters and a door. There are some remains of wall plaster on the lower parts of the walls. The room had a cocciopesto floor.
In the southeastern corner, below a rectangular masonry structure, probably one course of a collapsed pillar, a pozzo was located. The pozzo was filled with amphora fragments and on top was a broken amphora found upside down.
Room a measures 3.08 by 4.02 m.
