V 1,23 Casa di Caecilius Iucundus - North House
Description
A. Karivieri
The house, initially a medium-sized atrium house, was added to V 1,26 in the Early Imperial period (presumably Claudian), thus creating the double-atrium house known as Casa di Caecilius Iucundus. The house has sometimes been named Casa di Faustus (Della Corte 1965, 99), due to the name appearing in the electoral dipinto (CIL IV 3421; on this site, Inscriptions of Insula V 1, Façade - Via del Vesuvio, p. 29) to the right of the entrance, on the façade between V 1,23 and V 1,24.
