V 1,22 Taberna
Description
A. Karivieri & R. Forsell
The taberna is located between 21a and the fauces of 23. It measures 3.03 by 4.0 m and opens on to Via del Vesuvio by a 2.92 m wide door opening. The threshold shows that there used to be folding doors. The taberna had a lavapesta floor which is much destroyed. The walls were covered in wall-plaster of which there are remains on all three walls.
The taberna once communicated directly with the atrium of V 1,23 through a door in the eastern wall that was later filled in. This shows that the taberna once belonged to the North House of Caecilius Iucundus.
There are signs of a filled-in cistern in the south-eastern corner of the floor in front of the threshold of the filled-in door of the eastern wall.
