Cess pit
Description
Henrik Boman & Monica Nilsson
The cess pit under the latrine in the SE corner was built with small, well-cut stones. Excavation (2001) continued down to a depth of ca 1.50 m and it contained mostly lapilli from the AD 79 eruption, but also some collapsed material. However, the dome-shaped structure expanded in diameter and went below both the E and S walls of the room and the investigation had to be called off for security reasons.
