Room v
Description
Thomas Staub
Room v is a quite small and as it seems simple room in the northern part of the house with its north wall beeing part of the outer wall of the house towards vicolo delle Nozze d´argento. It is enterd through a doorway from room w, the distributor room of this part of the residence. A window is situated in the north wall. This wall seems to be part of the original building, where as the other walls are the result of a later restructering of at least this area in the house. No walldecorations can be observed, even if some remains of plaster are preserved. Also the pavement of AD 79 is mostly destroyed, only small remains can be observed along the east and south wall. The function of the room can not be determined unerringly, but due to its position near the kitchen and the rear entrance of the house it seems most plausible that it was related to the household service activity.
