Room n
Description
Thomas Staub
Room n, normally called oecus finestratus, is situated to the north of the peristyle with a large window opening up towards the portico and garden. The room is entered through a narrow door opening from corridor m'. Much of the walls are constructed in a mixed opus incertum, only the east wall shows remains of a probably earlier construction in opus africanum. The window frames are made of opus vitatum mixtum, the door frame of small mainly Sarno stone blocks. The floor consists of a coccio-pesto pavement with geometrical ornaments made of inserted mainly white tesserae. It was reproduced by E. Presuhn in 1882 (Taf. II, 7), but the copy does not seem to be entirely correct. The walls were decorated by probably quite simple paintings from the Fourth Style, but only few remains, mainly in red and yellow are preserved.
