North Wall
Description
Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson
The north wall of room d has large cut limestone blocks in an opus africanum arrangement with a filling of smaller stones, mainly lava and some limestone. The W and E walls abut without binding stones and the preserved layer of mortar on the western part of the wall continues under the W wall.
On the limestone block in the NE corner the plaster fragments belong to the early type A, but samples from the western part are of later date. Type G, also found in the niche on the W wall, is here covered by a reddish thin layer of clay.
