Room b
Description
Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson
Room b opens to room a through a high door and a large window. Along the N wall is a niche which extends almost the entire length of the wall. There are cuttings above the western end of the niche that could have served the same installation. A window located at a height of c. 2.25m opens to the northern street Vicolo delle Nozze d’Argento.
The cocciopesto floor is almost completely preserved. In the E wall, the lower part of a closed door is visible, but its lintel is not preserved. The closed door shows that the room originally had a direct connection to the rear area of the house.
The arrangement of the room is frequently seen in Pompeii, where a room with this layout is labelled retrobottega.
