South Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

The wall continues into corridor c without any specific features marking the transition between the rooms. In room a, the wall has two clear areas, the western with few modern mortar repairs, and the eastern (see sketch) with massive use of modern mortar. Important to notice, however, is that in V 1,14i, the ancient plaster covered this corresponding part of the wall almost completely.

The wall is built in opus africanum, with preserved orthostats (1-2, 3-4)) especially in the western part of the wall, with a significant break in line with the area with the richly applied modern mortar. This is the same line that we identify as that of a closed door (see Bakery, room 14i, north wall)
